Debates
On your right you'll find under DEBATES a very useful link with everythig you should know about debating (Debating rules). Please read it.
Start preparing your themes (same-sex marriage or forced marriage). I've posted a few links, try finding more so that next class in your teams you can start preparing. You'll have to decide on the MOOT, and also who is going to be the 1st , 2nd , 3rd speaker for or against.

Yakoobi's Student - Poem
Our young and childish games
Could somehow reveal, tell apart
Those who believed in burning flames
From those who had indeed a good start.
I was taught not to feel ashamed
From the beginning of my time;
No real authority when masters came
But lots of it in my own mind.
Bearded men, a Holy book,
A stage to play along
Was the reality that made us think
About what’s good and wrong.
Our knowledge was immense
And our lives were put at risk
Just to unveil that great light,
That great Holy bright
Instead of a closed fist.
Among all the other girls,
I am blessed to be
As brave as a the birds,
As brave as Yacoobi.
Themes for debating
As you can check from the poll, forced marriages and same-sex marriages are ahead.
I've decided to postpone the debates: our 1st session will be on the 5th, then we will set another
date for the second group. On the 3rd June ,I'd like to do some preparation in view of the debates

Poem on Handout 4.4A
From the womb to the tomb
Morning is here, morning is near
And now it is time to leave
The house which makes my future safe
Seems to be waiting for me
Morning is here, morning is near
But I have no idea
That God has made to wrap my faith
Just like the chadari I wear
Morning is here, morning is near
I cannot breathe, no one can help
That alley is the perfect place
For me to help myself
Morning is here, morning is near
I gasp for breath, I feel relieved
But the hand of the God who wraps my faith
Is coming over to me
I feel humiliation, I feel pain
Red raindrops hit the floor
I feel beaten as I am beaten
Until my heart can beat no more
Morning is no longer near
But I know mourning is here
I wish morning had come for my heir
But he was drowned in my own tears
Morning has turned to night
I knew it was time to leave
As I exposed myself I was exposed to death
But there should have been time to live.
Mourning is here…
Morning is here, morning is near
And now it is time to leave
The house which makes my future safe
Seems to be waiting for me
Morning is here, morning is near
But I have no idea
That God has made to wrap my faith
Just like the chadari I wear
Morning is here, morning is near
I cannot breathe, no one can help
That alley is the perfect place
For me to help myself

Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There

There was a book lying near Alice on the table, and while she sat watching the White King (for she was still a little anxious about him, and had the ink all ready to throw over him, in case he fainted again), she turned over the leaves, to find some part that she could read, ` -- for it's all in some language I don't know,' she said to herself.
It was like this.
YKCOWREBBAJ
sevot yhtils eht dna ,gillirb sawT`
ebaw eht ni elbmig dna eryg diD
,sevogorob eht erew ysmim llA
.ebargtuo shtar emom eht dnA
She puzzled over this for some time, but at last a bright thought struck her. `Why, it's a Looking-glass book, of course! And if I hold it up to a glass, the words will all go the right way again."
This was the poem that Alice read.
JABBERWOCKY
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
`Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jujub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!'
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum gree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wook,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
`And has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Calloh! Callay!
He chortled in his joy.
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
`It seems very pretty,' she said when she had finished it, `but it's RATHER hard to understand!' (You see she didn't like to confess, ever to herself, that she couldn't make it out at all.) `Somehow it seems to fill my head with ideas -- only I don't exactly know what they are! However, SOMEBODY killed SOMETHING: that's clear, at any rate -- '
It was like this.
